America’s health care system is very different from most other countries. As an international student, if you don’t have health insurance, medical and mental health care can be very expensive.
To be certain your health and wellbeing are protected throughout your studies at RISD, you are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan managed by University Health Plans and offered through UnitedHealthcare. You also can explore added coverage, such as vision or dental care.
Your policy will cover basic medical and mental health care, both on and off campus.
This includes access to RISD’s on-campus Health Services medical clinic and our Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which provides many mental health services. Our goal is to keep you feeling your very best as a student here.
Some related medical costs — such as lab tests, medicines, x-rays and other imaging tests, referrals to specialists and emergency care — may not be covered under your University Health Plans policy. Review policy coverage and benefits carefully.
